Our programme thrives on the dedication and hard work of volunteers. We wanted to celebrate and highlight one of the contributions from an outstanding individual who is dedicated to making a positive impact.
Liz was involved in the co-creation of her video for the recovery event. It demonstrated her ability to effectively communicate ideas visually. Not only did Liz contribute to the content, but she also led the presentation of the video on the day, demonstrating her confidence and skill in presenting her compelling recovery story.
Liz felt it was important to share her story to show that recovery is possible. Liz often says, “If I can help one person with my recovery story my job is done”.
On a crisp, sunny day in November, 160 people came together to celebrate mental health and mental health recovery. This included 40 young people, aged 16-18, ambassadors for promoting good mental health and challenging mental health stigma and discrimination.
Our volunteer Liz was delighted to be a part of the event by sharing her story.
“It was my honour and privilege to be part of your day. The personal feedback I received was incredible. Sharing my story was a truly cathartic experience”.
Liz received a lot of positive feedback on the day from the members at the recovery event.
Comments from a teacher who attended the event with some of the school’s Mental Health Ambassadors. “Our Mental Health Ambassadors thoroughly enjoyed your Celebration of Recovery. As young people, mental health can be a daunting idea which can be difficult to talk about, but the day broke down so many barriers. It helped them to see the real-world importance of positive mental wellbeing in our communities. It was especially helpful for them to hear the voices of people who were experiencing recovery, and the challenges they often experience therein – teaching mental health in schools can often feel theoretical but this showed difficulties with mental health can have on real lives”.
